This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) just kicked off a few hours ago and although it wasn’t as packed with hardware goodies compared to last year’s event where the Xbox One and Sony PS4 got the spotlights. This year was more about the games that will be played on the current generation consoles.

Earlier today, Microsoft’s Xbox team as well as Electronic Arts have already made their announcements including new titles from popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty and Just Dance. Moreover, Sony’s keynote is about to finish, so we’ll keep updating our website for other game titles announced during the event. For now, enjoy the trailers!


Just Dance 2015
Just Dance is a rhythm game series developed and published by Ubisoft. Just Dance 2015 is the 6th game in the series and will launch on October 2014.

FIFA 2015 Developed by EA Sports, FIFA 15 is derived from the real-life FIFA world cup. The game is expected to launch on September 2014

As promised, Microsoft has rolled out the first major update to its gaming console – the Xbox One.

Although the update was a bit late since it was scheduled to roll out by Feb 11, it makes up by bringing a number of improvements. These include an update to My Game & Apps to allow sorting of games and application lists, the ability to delete game and application save data, improved installation and DLC management, the addition of the controller battery power indicator and Improved UI for accessing friends, achievements, messages, and party chat.

There’s also now a Game DVR app included in the Xbox One Guide as an app channel, an update to the boot progress indicators for system update, improved consistency of UX for update and install progress, separate game/application/install queue lists and support for a USB keyboard.

Microsoft is also improving NAT detection, Network trouble shooter improvements, Blu-ray quality improvements and significant performance and stability upgrades.

Roughly three months after its release back in November of last year, Microsoft has announced that the first major update for its present gaming console – the Xbox One.

Microsoft will be rolling out the update in two different dates. The first one will be arriving next Tuesday, February 11 and will bring several new features into the console. These include improvements in the Kinect’s Voice recognition software, addition of developer tools, as well as some stability and performance updates.

Microsoft will also be adding a batter meter for gamepads, a reorganized My games and App section, a HDD meter to let users know how much storage they still have out of the 500GB built-in storage drive, a boot progress indicator for tracking updates while they load, support for USB keyboard and the ability to pick the order of the install line-up.

On the other hand, the second major update will come after two weeks on March 4. This update will contain new features and improvements, most notably Microsoft’s Party and Multiplayer system, in anticipation for an upcoming multiplayer-focused game called Titanfall.

Sony’s and Microsoft’s latest gaming consoles are undeniably the best-selling gaming machines over recent years as both consoles selling around 1 million units during its first 24 hours in retail stores. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for both of these devices.

For starters, a number of issue plagued the release of the PS4 including a bogged down PlayStation Network and a “blue light of dead” as reported by a number of consumers. The Xbox One release on the other hand had reports of bricked units and devices with faulty optical drives.

Fortunately, Microsoft was quick to respond and provided an acceptable compensation to those affected consumers. Users who have reported problems with their device’s optical drive will be given a free Microsoft-published game download.

The list of choices includes Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome and Zoo Tycoon. However, this offer only applies to consumers with faulty optical drives. Those with bricked units or encountering a different problem are still left in the dark.

After experiencing a short leak, Microsoft has made official Xbox Fitness for its newest generation gaming console, the Xbox One.

The service is designed to utilize the capabilities of the new Kinect and employs the services of various professional trainers to give gamers an instant and personalized feedback based on the user’s workout, which can last from 10 to 60 minutes.

Xbox Fitness uses the Kinect to track the gamer’s heart rate by tracking several factors including which muscles are most engaged in the body, measuring the power, force and transfer of weight in the body, balance, tempo and form.

Aside from tracking the gamer’s performance, the service will also show what the most popular workouts are for other users of the services and will be able to use performance stats to challenge friends or compare them with other users.

Xbox Fitness will initially be available for free to all Xbox Live Gold users until December 2014, but it’s expected that after that Microsoft will start charging users for the service.

Microsoft’s Xbox One has been filled with controversies ever since it announced some restrictive policies that garnered negative feedback from majority of the gaming world. The company later on reversed these policies in an attempt to win back consumers.

Amidst all these controversies, is Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft’s Entertainment Business. Mattrick held this position for the past three years but will soon depart as he takes on the new role of Chief Executive Officer of social gaming firm Zynga.

In an internal email to employees posted on Microsoft’s News Center, the company’s CEO Steve Ballmer announced that Mattrick’s staff will now report directly to him and continue to conduct business as usual.

Furthermore, Ballmer also thanked Mattrick for leading the Xbox One team and adds that the strong leadership team at IEB and their teams are well positioned to deliver the next-generation entertainment console, as well as transformative entertainment experiences, long into the future.

On Zynga’s side, Mattrick will replace Mark Pincus as Chief Executive Officer as the latter will remain as the Chairman of the Board and the Chief Product Officer. Don Mattrick has also written a letter to Zynga’s employees the full text of which are written below.

I’ve admired Zynga for years. You have redefined entertainment and brought gaming to the mainstream.

More than 1 billion people have installed a Zynga game across web and mobile and popular franchises like FarmVille and Words With Friends are a daily habit for millions of people. It’s a staggering milestone that speaks to the mass market opportunity ahead of all of us.

I joined Zynga because I believe that Mark’s pioneering vision and mission to connect the world through games is just getting started. As Mark was recruiting me to come here, I was impressed by his creativity, drive and the clarity in which he sees the future of games and entertainment as a core consumer experience.

For the last 30 years, I’ve been fortunate to work with smart people on exciting projects. I’ve managed over 100 platform transitions and I’ve never lost my love for seeing products as creative experiences that bring people together.

I’ve had the chance to lead the teams behind brands and franchises like “Need for Speed,” “FIFA” and “The Sims” and networks and consumer services like Xbox and Kinect. I’ve seen firsthand how powerful franchises and networks can work together to deliver breakthrough value for consumers and drive sustainable growth. The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) may have ended last week but the news it made last week are still reverberating across the tech space this week. Just today, two major updates on two of the biggest names in the gaming world were announced that carried both good and bad news to gamers all around the globe.

MICROSOFT and the XBOX ONE

First one up is Microsoft and its about face decision on the Xbox One’s highly controversial policies. According to an official blog post by Microsoft’s president of interactive entertainment Don Mattrick, the company will be revoking its previous policy on check-ins and trading of used games.

From Mattrick’s post, Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will only require a one-time connection during setup. Uses will now be able to play disc based games without ever connecting online again. There will be no 24-hour connection requirement and users will be able to take their machines anywhere they want just like the Xbox 360.

Microsoft will also be lifting the limitations when it comes to using and sharing games. Users will no longer be required to only share a game to Xbox Live connections that have been in their network for at least 30 days. Moreover, the company will be lifting regional restrictions (DRM) allowing importers and travellers who are residing in areas outside of Xbox One’s supported countries to still enjoy the console.

The trade-off though is that some cloud-based gaming capabilities will be rendered useless without the 24-hour check in requirement. These include cloud-saving, access to an online games library and a family sharing feature.

SONY and the PLAYSTATION 3

Meanwhile, Sony is also having some issues on their side of the fence. A recent firmware update to the PlayStation 3 has caused some consoles to stop working.

According to the PlayStation support forums, the problem was caused by firmware update version 4.45 which lets the users choose to enable or disable in-game notifications whenever they earn a trophy.

Sony on the other hand has announced that they are aware of the issue and claims that only a small number of people experienced the problem. At present, Sony has already taken the firmware update offline and is already investigating the issue. The company has promised to fix the problem as soon as possible with another update. For those users who have bricked their PS3, they can still implement the update once it becomes available by going in to safe mode.
