For the past few months, Valve’s SteamOS quite a bit of hype
due to its very ambitious efforts of putting PC games in a console-like
environment. For the most part, the company has already made ties with
different manufacturers to build the hardware that will run the operating
system. But when it comes to the development as well as testing of the apps has
been made relatively exclusive to a select few.
Ever since the release of the first beta of SteamOS, only
users whose machines are equipped with UEFI and users with older machines are a
bit left out. This week, Valve released an update to SteamOS that allowed users
with older machines to install the OS into their system. Moreover, the update
will also allow users to use OS in a dual-boot configuration; and support for
partitioning, recovery and DVD install.
The ISO file for the update is now available at the SteamOS
community page. However, Valve has put up a disclaimer saying that this update
hasn’t undergone much testing yet and cautions users to “not install the update
to a machine they are not prepared to lose”.
