Last week we saw a glimpse of what the Galaxy S5 Active
would look like through a leaked image of the handset’s case. This week, the
leaksters become more aggressive as the Galaxy S5 Active shows up not only in
an unreleased press image but also on a series of videos.
According to the leaked image and videos by @evleaks and TK
Tech News respectively, the S5 Active will have the model number SMG870A and
will run on Android 4.4 KitKat with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top.
The phone is expected to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip
with 2GB of RAM, support for a 16MP camera and a display resolution above 720p
(around 1920x1080 pixels). Design-wise, the S5 Active remains loyal to the
Active line still featuring the rugged design from the S4 Active with its faux
screws and rubber accents.
What’s new though to the S5 Active is the an Activity Zone
that seems like an extended version of the S-Health app on the Galaxy S5, which
can be accessed using the “Activity Key” located at the left side of the
handset.
The S5 Active will also come with a barometer, a compass,
and a flashlight feature, giving it more street creds than its predecessor.
There’s no definite date yet on when the device will be available and how much
it will cost but with a live unit lurking somewhere it shouldn’t take too long
for Samsung to give an official announcement.
