Samsung is reportedly planning to dip its toes in the realm
of virtual reality by making its own virtual reality headset.
It looks like Samsung is trying to speed things up in order
to beat Facebook and Sony to the punch with reports saying that the tech giant
has already set an announcement date sometime within the year. In fact, some
developers are reportedly already working on early versions of the headset.
However, unlike the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus,
Samsung plans to use the headset with its mobile devices. The device is said to
have an OLED screen that’s better than the one used in the Oculus Rift Dev Kit
2.
It was not stated in the report how the headset will be
connected to a phone or tablet, nor was it mentioned if the device will have
the ability to track head movements (the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus use
cameras to track sensors located on the headsets in order to track head
movement).
Samsung is also allegedly planning to sell the headset a
lower price point than its competitors. Other than what were mentioned above, a
lot of the details about this product remains unknown, but we’ll keep everyone
posted once more information becomes available.
