Samsung has received high praise for its Galaxy
S6 and S6 Edge, so there are really high hopes for the future of the Korean
tech giant’s family of Galaxy S models. Well, if you’re one of such believers,
then we’re afraid Samsung might break your heart with this one.
The Korean company has just announced the Galaxy S6 Active –
the more rugged version of its flagship model. And unlike the S6 and S6 Edge,
this model is losing its pretty glass back and metal sides for something more weather-proof.
It’s packing a 5.1 QHD display of the Super AMOLED variety
and sports an Exynos 7420 chip with a 64-bit octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and
32GB of internal storage. The S6 Active alsoo has NFC, 4G LTE connectivity and Bluetooth
v4.1.
The phone also comes with a 16MP camera at the back, a 5MP
camera on the front (with a 120-degree wide angle lens), a 3500mAh battery
(that is not removable), and of course IP68 and Mil-STD-810G certification.
This means the phone is waterproof up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes, is
completely dust-proof and shock proof.
The Galaxy S6 Active will be available in three colors –
Camo white, camo blue and gray starting this week for $695 off contract on
AT&T. There’s no word yet when Samsung plans to take it outside the US
carrier.
