COMPUTEX 2014: Asus Transformers

Computex formally kicked off this morning in Taiwan and some PC makers in the event are definitely maximizing the home court advantage by releasing a slew products. We’ve already seen Acer’s smartphones, phablet and wearables. So now, it’s time for the other Taiwanese company to show off its newest products.

First one up is Acer’s Transformers with the Transformer Book T300 Chi and the Transformer Pad TF303CL.

The Transformer Book T300 Chi is a 12.5-inch 2-in-1 laptop that converts from a Windows-powered tablet into a full-fledged laptop thanks to its detachable keyboard dock. The device boasts a screen resolution of 2560 x 1480 pixels and comes running with either a Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Pro operating system.

The T300 Chi will be powered by Intel’s latest Core processor and comes with an iSSD storage and with either 2GB or 4GB of DDR3 RAM. The device also comes with Intel HD graphics, an HD camera, 4G LTE connectivity and a Li-Polymer battery. Asus is marketing the T300 Chi as the thinnest 12.5-inch laptop in the market today.

Now if you’re not looking for a productivity machine and more of an Android play toy wherein you can do some word processing or spreadsheet computation on the side, then the Asus Transformer Pad TF303CL would be a good choice for you.

The device comes equipped with a 64-bit Intel Atom chip (Z3745) that comes with a 1.86GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, Intel graphics, either 16GB or 32GB of built-in storage and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box..

The new Transformer Pad has a 10.1-inch WUXGA Full HD IPS panel that offers 10-point multi-touch and is covered with an anti-fingerprint coating to keep it smudge and oil free. There’s also a 5MP+1.2MP camera combo, and the usual connectivity features such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Cat4 LTE connectivity.

Asus has added a 25Wh Li-polymer battery that should last for around 10 hours. And just like the T300 Chi, the tablet can be transformed into a laptop with a keyboard dock with a hidden hinge design.
Asus hasn’t mentioned the release date and pricing information for the two Transformer devices but we’ll keep everyone posted once more details come into view.
