Multi-mode laptops are definitely a trend these days. After Lenovo’s
successful Yoga
line, other manufacturers such as Acer
and HP
have followed and have released their own flavours of the wonder hinge that
allows Lenovo Yoga devices to have up to five different modes.
Toshiba is the latest to adopt the design with its upcoming
Satellite Radius. The device will be powered by either a Core i5 or i7
processor complemented by 8GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The
Radius will have a 15-inch display as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Harman Kardon
speakers and a Sleep/Charge USB 3.0 port.
But of course the highlight of the Satellite Radius would
have to be its transformable properties. Just like Lenovo’s Yoga, the Radius is
capable of converting itself into five different modes including the
traditional notebook/tablet interface, a Presentation mode (tent mode),
Audience mode (screen is flipped beyond 180 degrees) and a Tabletop mode where
the device lays flat on the table.
But unlike the Yoga, has a detachable display/head unit
which effectively transforms the Satellite into a 15-inch tablet (similar to Acer’s
Aspire Switch 10). The Toshiba Satellite Radius will be available in July in
the U.S. starting at $926.
