A few weeks ago, news broke out about Google engineer Benson Leung criticizing OnePlus’ USB Type-C cables, indicating it poses possible damage to other manufacturer’s gadgets.OnePlus has finally issued a statement in its forum in an effort to straighten the issue.

According to the post, the company’s cables and adapters are using a 10kΩ resistor instead of the 56kΩ resistor that’s prescribed by the Type-C port standard.

The resistor that the company uses allows its cable to draw more power from the power source though it could potentially damage third-party devices, especially if such devices don’t have an internal mechanism to regulate the amount of power flowing to or from them.

The company adds they designed the cables and adapters for use specifically with the OnePlus 2, insisting the accessories will work safely with the company’s phones.

For this reason, OnePlus advises its customers to check the devices they want to use with the cables and adapters for a CCC, CE or UL certification just to be safe.

The company will also be providing refund for cables purchased on the website until December 31, 2015. Moreover, OnePlus has promised that they are currently working on a new batch of Type-C cables and adapters that follow the 56kΩ standard.

While OnePlus’ 2 is marketed by the company as the Flagshipkiller, it can be argued that its latest release, the OnePlus X is the mid-range killer. The phone is priced at $250, but offers consumers more bang for their buck compared to its competition.

The smartphone sports a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED panel and comes equipped with a Snapdragon 801 chipset featuring a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, an Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

In the camera department, the X features a 13MP primary camera with an ISOCELL sensor from Samsung with an f/2.2 lens. The front camera has an 8MP sensor with an f/2.4 lens.

The phone is bound by an anodized metal frame while the body can be had in either Onyx or Ceramic. The latter is said to have 8.5H hardness on the Mohs scale thanks to its sophisticated manufacturing process that takes 25 days to finish.

Other notable features of the phone include 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with GLONASS and BDS and Android 5.1.1 with OxygenOS on top.

As with its bigger brother, the OnePlus X will be offered through an invite system. On top of that, only 10,000 units will be made making it even harder to come by.

When Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus announced the One smartphone last year, they said that it’s going to be the flagship killer at a price that most consumers will be able to afford.

With the price of $299 upon launch, it was indeed more affordable than flagship devices from major manufacturers like Apple and Samsung. Although it still didn’t get enough traction to beat the more popular Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5 in terms of worldwide sales, the OnePlus One remained a viable choice for people who are looking to make the most out of their bang when shopping for a new phone.

This year, OnePlus is trying to beat the One’s record with the release of its second generation flagship killer – the OnePlus 2.

The smartphone is a step up from its predecessor, sporting a magnesium frame, metallic buttons and upgraded innards. The phone’s display is a 5.5-inch 1080p panel while the chip is a Snapdragon 810 SoC which features 3-4GB of RAM and 16GB to 64GB of onboard storage.

At the back, there’s a 13MP camera with optical image stabilization, laser focus, support for 4K video capture and HD slow motion recording at 120 frames per second. There’s also a 5MP sensor on the front for selfies and video calls. A fingerprint scanner is also placed in front of the device which can store up to five fingerprints.

The OnePlus 2 is the first phone in the market that comes equipped with a USB Type-C connection for charging and data syncing. The handset will have dual-nano SIM functionality, 4G LTE connectivity and a 3300mAh battery.

Just like the first OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 2 will feature StyleSwap covers that will come in various finishes including bamboo, Kevlar, black apricot and rosewood. OnePlus will be selling the handset starting at $329 for the 16GB version and will go up to $389 for the 64GB variant.

OnePlus has made a name for itself in the past with its One smartphone being what many come to call a “flagship killer” thanks to its top-tier specs at midrange pricing. The OnePlus One was also known for packing the latest version of the popular Android custom ROM CyanogenMod.

But this time around, the company is ditching the CyanogenMod ROM in favor of its very own Oxygen OS based from Android 5.0 Lollipop. The company is rolling the update to its One smartphone via the OnePlus site.

Users will, of course will be required to manually wipe and flash their phones in order to install the update. Several features will come with the new operating system including a built-in file manager for power users, gesture-based commands for the lockscreen, and customizable quick settings.

The company promises for a stable and reliable experience, specifically stating improvements in the area of performance, battery life and the removal of bloatware features.

It’s been months since we heard of any juicy rumors surrounding any particular handset or device. After all, the past few months were jam-packed with device launches from IFA and individual releases from Nokia, Oppo and HTC to name a few. So at this point in time, we’re just about ready to hear more news about devices scheduled to go official next year.

On one hand, there’s the second generation Moto E, which according to a Greek website will be released soon. The phone is expected to have a 5-inch display with 960x540 resolution, a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and LTE connectivity.

Information about the chip isn’t specified yet, but it will likely have a Qualcomm chip probably a Snapdragon 400 or a new model with a quad-core CPU clocked at least 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM. Naturally, the phone will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

Another second generation device purportedly coming in the next few months is the successor of the OnePlus One. The phone is expected to launch by Q3 of next year, but surprisingly, an online store in China has already listed the phone on its website, putting up some of its specs along the way.

The handset will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chip, a 5.5-inch display, 32GB of internal storage, a 5MP selfie camera, 16MP rear camera and a 3300mAh battery. The listing price for the OnePlus Two is $551.99. However, do note that OnePlus hasn’t confirmed anything about the device yet, so it’s best to take this information with caution.

The long wait is finally over. After spending weeks in rumour land, the OnePlus One smartphone is now finally official. The phone was announced in a special event in Beijing ending all speculations attached with the phone.

In terms of specs to price ratio, the One smartphone beats almost all flagship smartphones in the market featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip with a quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 CPU, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and will come in either 16GB or 32GB models.

The phone runs on a special version of CyanogenMod based on Android 4.4 KitKat and features a flat and minimalist UI. The display of the phone is JDI-made and spans 5.5 inches at the front of the device. The display offers 1080p resolution, resulting in a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch.

OnePlus used magnesium for the body of the one which equates to a lighter device compared to other smartphones that used aluminium and stainless steel. The body also features a slightly recessed bezel (around 0.07mm according to OnePlus) and offers understated elegance with OnePlus opting to remove any unnecessary branding in the phone’s face.

The One also packs dual stereo speakers from popular audio company JBL as well as a 13MP Sony IMX214 Sensor with 6 lenses and an f/2.0 aperture capable of recording 4K video and features a shutter speed of 0.3 seconds.

The company will also be launching a special StyleSwap covers featuring different textures and designs such as bamboo, wood, denim and Kevlar. The One will be powered by a 3100mAh Li-Po battery, which unfortunately isn’t replaceable albeit the removable back cover of the handset.

The OnePlus One will launch in Q2 in different markets including Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, Fance, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, UK and the United States. The 16GB sandstone black and silk white version will retail for $299 while the 64GB version will sell for $350.
