Those who are looking for tons of storage in their system must definitely consider Seagate’s Archive line of hard disk drives. This week, the company announced a new 8TB model that will be sold for just $260.

The drive uses Shingled Magnetic Recording (SRM) technology that allows for more data to be stored using the same space as traditional 3.5-inch HDDs. It also consumes less power and features Seagate’s on-demand, time-to-ready PowerChoice technology. Moreover, the drive can be equipped with Self-Encrypting drive options for secure data storage and retirement.

Seagate is offering the drive in three different capacities – 8GB, 6TB and 5TB. According to reports, shipments have already reached distributors so it’s only a matter of time before we see these massive drives hit the shelves at the local mall.

Surveillance cameras in recent years have become an integral part of our lives especially in the area of personal and business security. In fact, almost every business nowadays and even houses have their own CCTV. So it’s not that surprising to see the market for surveillance equipment to flourish.

Seagate is trying to bite a good chunk from the market by introducing its new surveillance hard disk drives featuring recovery services designed to restore data whether accidental or intentional, thereby giving consumers and businesses peace of mind that their valuable surveillance footage won’t be easily deleted.

The HDD’s Rescue Services can typically restore data within two weeks depending on the type of recovery. The service is activated at the time of purchase and provides up to three years-worth of data recovery. The company is offering these drives up to 6TB in capacity, which is capable of storing up to 600 hours of HD content. They also feature optional rotational vibration sensors.

The drives support up to 32 channels as well as large streaming workloads for longer periods of time with low power consumption and low heat emissions. Seagate is already shipping the 1-4TB versions of these drives while the 6TB variant will be available before the end of the year.
