Wrapping up Acer’s announcement at IFA are its new PC
additions. These include the new Revo modular PC, the Chromebook R11 and the
Aspire R14 among others.
First up, we have the Acer Revo Build PC, a new desktop with
a modular design that falls in the same concept as Razer’s Project
Christine from CES 2014. This design allows users to customize their unit
based on their specific needs and preferences.
The entire device uses modules or “blocks” that sit on top
of one another and are connected to each other with pogo pins that are aligned
using magnets. The unit that was featured on Acer’s keynote included blocks
designed for graphics, storage and power. Furthermore, each block can be used
independently with other PCs as well. For instance, the storage block can
double as a portable external hard drive when used with another device.
Next, we have the Chromebook R11, the company’s first
convertible Chrome OS-powered device. As the name implies, the device comes
with an 11.6-inch display which offers 1366 x 768 resolution. The R11 also
comes with an Intel Celeron chip and of course those 360-degree hinges which
gives it its name.
The Chromebook R11 will officially launch in October and
will be sold for $299.
Then we have the new Aspire R13 which is actually a refresh
of last year’s model and features the same Ezel Aero Hinge that allows the
device to flip the screen into a tablet.
The R13 packs Intel’s new Skylake processors and Qualcomm’s
Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO technology and Thunderbolt to USB Type C connection. The
laptop can be configured using 2 SSDs in a RAID-0 setup to achieve higher data
throughput. The laptop will be on sale next month starting at around $899.
