The third model in the Galaxy A-series has just been
unveiled on the company’s Chinese website. The Galaxy A8 is now the thinnest
phone in the tech giant’s entire line up at 5.9mm, which puts it in direct
firing range of some Chinese phones like Gionee
and Oppo.
The phone is packing a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED
display, a Snapdragon 615 chip with a 1GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and
either 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage. There are two SIM card slots on the
phone but the other one is a microSD card combo, meaning it can only be used if
you’re not using an SD card.
Samsung has equipped the A8 with a 16MP main camera at the
back which features optical image stabilization and a bright f/1.9 aperture.
There’s also LTE connectivity, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS with GLONASS
and Beidou support, NFC, a fingerprint reader and a 3050mAh battery.
We don’t have specific information yet on pricing and
availability, but we should expect Samsung to announce those soon.
