Mediatek has always been known as the more affordable
alternative when it comes to SoCs for mobile devices and this has been the case
for quite some time already. Now, the chipmaker is trying to change this stigma
by announcing its Helio P10 chip bound for the next-generation smartphones.
The company’s new Helio P10 (with the P standing for premium
performance) offers 64-bit computing power with an octa-core processor and
dual-core Mali-T860 graphics card. It also provides support for a single 21MP
camera (or a 16MP+8MP camera combo) and consumers less power than its
predecessor.
The chip also support Cat 6 LTE connectivity which provides
up to 300Mbps download speed, twice that of the Cat 4 from the earlier
generations. Mediatek also equipped the Helio P10 with high quality audio
equipment that delivers 110dB signal-to-noise ratio and -95dB of total harmonic
distortion.
The chip will be produced on a 28nm process and will be
available for mass production most likely before the end of the year.
