So you might be thinking that the Xperia Z3 is no longer
receiving any love from Sony after the announcement of the Xperia Z4 in Japan
last month. But Sony is pulling a surprise by announcing a minor update to the
Z3 with the Z3+.
The new model is touting the same 5.2-inch Full HD display
as the rest of the Z3 gang (and that means the Triluminous display technology
and X-reality for mobile as well). In terms of the internals, the Z3+ gets an
updated Snapdragon 810 chipset with an octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB
of on-board storage.
There’s also a 2930mAh battery, which Sony promises to
deliver up to 2 days’ worth of battery life. The handset will still get
IP65/IP68 certification as well as the base Z3’s main camera, which is a 20.7MP
Exmor Sensor with a 25mm f/2.0 lens. The front selfie camera has been upgraded
though to a 5MP one with the same 25mm lens.
The camera’s software include SteadyShot with Intelligent
Active mode, HDR modes both for photo and video, and ISO range that tops at
12800 and Superior Auto scene recognition. The camera can also capture 4K video
(3840 x 2160) and you can playback any video you’ve captured on to a 4K TV
using an MHL 3.0 connector.
The Xperia Z3+ will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop and will be
available in four different colours: copper, black, white and aqua green. There’s
no word yet on pricing and exact shipping dates but Sony did mention that it
plans to launch the phone officially in June.
