Samsung Welcomes Four New Galaxies (UPDATED)


Samsung has just announced four new handsets that cater to the mid-range and entry-level markets. The new devices are simply updates to the Korean tech giant’s earlier generations of Galaxy smartphones.

The first handset is the fourth generation Galaxy Ace, which features a 4.5-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor (up to 1.2GHz for the LTE version) and Android 4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz Samsung has just announced four new handsets that cater to the mid-range and entry-level markets. The first handset is the fourth generation Galaxy Ace, which features a 4.5-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor (up to 1.2GHz for the LTE version) and Android 4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz Essence interface – a simplified version of the full TouchWiz experience.

Samsung hasn’t revealed the complete specs of the Galaxy Ace 4, but we’re expecting the typical entry-level to mid-range features like 512MB of RAM (up to 1GB for LTE version), 5MP rear camera and 4GB built-in storage as standard affair.

Galaxy Core II

Then there’s also the Galaxy Core II – a 4.5-inch mid-ranger that packs a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage, a 5MP rear snapper with LED flash, a VGA front-facing camera and a 2000mAh battery.

Also on Samsung’s plate today are two new models designed for the youth – the Galaxy Young 2 and the Galaxy Star 2. Both models feature a 3.5 HVGA display, a 1GHz single-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card and 3G connectivity.

Both phones will have the usual set of connectivity features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and an FM radio. Samsung is also adding an extra SIM slot for those who are managing two phone numbers.

All four devices bear very simple design, which is to be expected given the type of consumers Samsung is marketing them for. There’s no word yet on pricing for the four Galaxies but we don’t expect them to go beyond the $200 price point.Essence interface – a simplified version of the full TouchWiz experience.

July 2, 2014 Update:

Pricing information about three of the four phones have been announced. The Galaxy Ace 4 will have a price tag of around $300, while the Galaxy Core II and Galaxy Young 2 will be offered for $244 and $135 respectively.
