Samsung has just announced the miniature version of its
flagship handset complete with all of the S5’s sensors and design elements.
The Galaxy S5 Mini features a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display
with 720p resolution and a screen density of 326ppi. The brains of the handset
is a 1.4GHz quad-core processor complemented by 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of
on-board storage that can be expanded with a microSD card.
Samsung is equipping the S5 Mini with Android 4.4 KitKat out
of the bat with a number of the company’s apps and features including S Health,
Private Mode, Kids Mode and Ultra Power Saving mode.
Fortunately, the S5’s sensors also made their way into the
S5 Mini. The heart rate sensor is located at the back in the same position as
with its bigger brother, while the fingerprint sensor is also placed in the
hardware Home key.
The camera of the S5 Mini has an 8MP sensor and is capable
of capturing Full HD video at 30fps. The camera also features a couple of
Samsung’s software improvements like those seen on the Galaxy S5. There’s also
a 2.1MP front facing camera and a 2100mAh battery.
In terms of connectivity, the Mini features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
4.0 and 4G LTE connectivity.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will be available initially in
Russia this month in four colour combinations including charcoal black,
shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold. Samsung hasn’t disclosed
information about pricing but that info will likely be revealed in the coming
weeks.
