Google I/O is just a few hours away and we know everyone’s
excited to see what the search giant has prepared for us, especially in the
area of wearables. But just before the new Android Wear-powered devices go on
stage, here’s a smartwatch we think Google, Samsung and other manufacturers
should follow in terms of design.
Designed in Paris and manufactured in Switzerland, the
Withings Activité sports the elegant look of luxury Swiss watch but is packed
with an array of sensors that track user’s activities. The watch features a traditional
analogue face with interchangeable straps (the watch comes with French calf
leather bands) with quick release spring bars.
The Activité also comes equipped with sensors that track
walking distance and calories burned while walking, a user’s sleep cycle and
distance covered in swimming. Users can also set alarms on the watch as well as
task objectives which is triggered by a vibrate function.
The collected data is transmitted to a smartphone and organized via a dedicated app (which is also used in other Withings products) using Bluetooth LE. The Activité is water-resistant up to 5ATM and will work with a CR2025 button cell that can last for an entire year. Withings will offer the Activité in the coming months for $390.
