Samsung’s highly publicized Tab Into Color event
ended a few minutes ago and became the venue where the Korean tech company
unveiled two new tablets under the Galaxy Tab S name.
As a whole, the two tablets are basically stretched versions
of the Galaxy S5 with high-resolution Super AMOLED displays and thinner bodies.
The displays of both the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and the Tab S 10.5 feature WQHD
resolution (2560 x 1600 pixels) with a screen density of 288ppi and 359ppi
respectively.
Samsung will be manufacturing two versions of each tablet.
One will be an LTE version that sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with a
2.3GHz quad-core CPU, while the other will be a Wi-Fi only version with an
Exynos 5 Octa chip featuring a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 and 1.9GHz Cortex-A15
CPU.
Both models will get 3GB of RAM, while on-board storage
starts at 16GB or 32GB and can be expanded using a microSD card. The 8.4- and 10.5-inch
tablets will be powered by a 4900mAh and 7900mAh batteries respectively; and
will have an 8MP+2.1MP camera combo. There’s also an IR blaster and a
fingerprint scanner in the Home button of each devices as well as the signature
dimpled plastic back cover first seen on the S5.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S models will run on Android KitKat
with Samsung’s Magazine UX on top. Both tablets will be available for pre-order
starting today with the Tab 8.4 selling for $399 while the Tab 10.5 will be go
