Big bike-maker Harley Davidson is definitely feeling the
pressure when it comes to the use of sustainable energy in its products as it
announced a prototype bike that runs on electricity – Project LiveWire.
The bike sports a traditional Harley design that’s rooted in
emotion. Just like other bikes on the company’s line-up, Project LiveWire’s
design was inspired by racing machines. For instance its longitudinal
powertrain features accents inspired by superchargers on drag cars, while its
aggressive rake angle and short tail section are classic Harley design.
What’s new though is the bike’s electric engine. The demo
unit that the company is showcasing in a road tour reportedly has a 74hp engine
that reaches a top speed of 95mph and has a range of 53 miles when charged for
3.5 hours).
The bike has a one-piece frame with dual-sided rear swing
arm suspension, LED lighting and a touchscreen display. Harley Davidson will be
bringing the bike all over the United States in a demo tour probably to test
consumer reception.
