Remember that breakup
story that we saw last year between HTC and Beats Electronics? Today, a new
book of that story unfolds as the audio equipment manufacturer will reportedly
be acquired by none other than Apple.
According to the report of The Financial Times, the Cupertino company is currently in talks to
purchase Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion. The deal, which is Apple’s most
expensive acquisition to date, is expected to be finalized as early as next
week.
In theory, the acquisition should be beneficial to both
parties. On one hand, Beats Electronics’ expertise in making audio hardware
should help improve Apple’s existing line of Mac and iOS devices. Moreover, Beats’
acquisition will signify the end of the competition between Beats
Music and iTunes
Radio.
On the other hand, the deal would allow Beats to deliver its
products and technology to a broader and at times very loyal fan base.
Currently, Apple is already selling Beats products in some of its retail stores.
Naturally, Apple declined to comment on the report, but it
might not be that long for an official statement to be given if the deal can be
sealed next week. What do you think?
