Remember the Galaxy Beam 2 we saw last month? The phone has
now been officially announced by Samsung in China with the model number
SM-G3858.
The handset will sport a 4.7-inch WVGA display and will come
with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor complimented by 1GB of RAM, There’s also a
5MP camera at the back with LED flash and a front-facing camera of yet unknown
resolution. In terms of connectivity features, the Beam 2 will have Wi-Fi
802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS with GLONASS and 3G connectivity.
But of course the most interesting feature of the Beam 2 is
its built-in pico projector with WVGA resolution. It supports background color
correction and comes with a couple of dedicated applications including a
notepad.
Samsung hasn’t specified which version of Android the phone will
run, but it’s most likely Android 4.4 KitKat. There’s also no word if the phone
will be offered outside of China.
In other news, the Korean tech giant has also partnered with
Austrian crystal brand Swarovski for a special edition of the Galaxy S5 called the
Crystal Collection edition.
The phone is expected to launch in May, probably in limited numbers. It should also be expected that the phone will likely have identical specs with the basic S5 and the changes will only be reflected in terms of external design.
