Probably one of the benefits of Sony selling the Vaio brand is
that it was able to diversify its product line to more than just laptops and
desktop computers. And this week, the Japanese brand just did that by
announcing its own smartphone.
The Vaio Phone gets by with a 5-inch IPS 720p display, a
Snapdragon 410 chipset with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB
of expandable storage. There’s also a 2500mAh battery, a 13MP camera at the
back, a 5MP selfie camera and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
Vaio didn’t provide and details about connectivity features,
but the phone closely resembles a certain Panasonic Eluga U2, which packs LTE
connectivity, Bluetooth v4.0 and Wi-Fi to say the least.
The Vaio Phone is now available in Japan for around $420.
There’s no word yet if Vaio plans to bring the handset to other markets, so
we’ll just have to wait and see.
