One of the companies that made the biggest announcements at
this year’s CES was probably Intel. Apart from the various devices powered by
its new chips, the tech giant also introduced some interesting projects it is
currently working on.
On one hand, we have the Intel Curie module, a button-sized
hardware intended for wearables. The module is expected to be available by the
second half of 2015 and should include Intel’s Quark SE chip, a Bluetooth LE
radio, sensor and battery charging.
The company also announced that they are currently working
with several fashion brands to push wearable technology into the main stream.
The company’s CEO, Brian Krzanich mentioned several brands including Basis
Peak, Fossil Group, Luxottica Group, MICA and Opening Ceremony and SMS Audio to
name a few.
And speaking of collaboration with fashion brands, Intel has
reiterated its efforts to collaborate with Oakley on smart eyewear. Krzanich
says the first product may come later this year and will be geared towards
athletes.
Lastly, the chipmaker has announced its plans to invest $300
million to help build a pipeline of female and under-represented engineers and
computer scientists. Intel plans to work with several partners in the tech
industry to create or enhance programs that make use of female talent and those
of the minority.
