Samsung Tizen lineup is now welcoming a new addition with the arrival of the Z3, a larger and more powerful model for fans who want a bit more oomph from Tizen.

The Z3 will be joining the Z1 on store shelves starting this month and will sport a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, a Spreadtrum chipset with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. The phone will also get an 8MP camera at the back and a 5MP snapper with wide-angle lens on the front.

As Tizen phones are mostly designed for emerging markets, the Z3 only comes with 3G connectivity, though it does support dual-SIM functionality. Moreover, the device comes equipped with an Ultra Data Saving mode, which Samsung says can reduce data costs by up to 50%.

The Samsung Z3 will be available later this month starting at $130.

After months and months of waiting, Samsung has finally unveiled its long-awaited Tizen-powered smartphone. The handset is called the Z1 and will initially launch in India for just $92.

The handset is sporting quite unique specifications. The Z1 has a 4-inch WVGA display, a Spreatrum SC7727S chip with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a Mali 400 GPU, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of expandable storage.

There’s a 3.1MP camera at the back, a VGA selfie camera on the front, dual SIM support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G connectivity and a 1500mAh battery. Samsung has also installed its own AntiVirus software on the Z1 plus a number of other features including an Ultra Power Saving mode and a SOS alerts.

Sammy has just upped the ante when it comes to wearable tech as it announces the new Gear S smartwatch.

The watch will be powered by the company’s own homebrewed operating system, Tizen and will have a 2.0-inch curved AMOLED display with a display resolution of 480x480 pixels. The dual-core processor is clocked at 1GHz and there’s 4GB of built-in storage as well as 512MB of RAM.

Just like the previous Gear models, the Gear S tries to do a bit more than the competition. For instance, the watch comes with 3G connectivity allowing the device to make phone calls and send text messages on its own (although you need a special accessory to do this). There’s also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, a built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, a heart rate monitor, ambient light and UV sensors and a barometer.

The Gear S is also IP67 certified and a 300mAh battery (which according to Samsung will last up to 2 days of typical use). Again, there’s no word on pricing and availability yet but we’ll probably see more details about those in the coming weeks.

After months of going back and forth with its development, Samsung has finally unveiled its first Tizen-powered smartphone – the Samsung Z.

The phone is built around a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution. Under the hood is (possibly) a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage that can be expanded using a microSD card.

Samsung has also migrated some of the innovations it has made with its Android handsets into the Samsung Z including the fingerprint reader, heart rate sensor, Download booster and Ultra Power Saving Mode from the Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Z also comes with an 8MP camera at the back, a 2.1MP front-facing snapper, LTE connectivity, NFC, an IR sensor, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The phone will run on Tizen 2.2.1 that will come with a revamped user interface that can be customized using the built-in theming engine.

The Samsung Z will launch in Q3 2014 initially in Russia, while other markets will shortly follow. The phone will also be showcased at the company’s Tizen Developer conference on June 3.

Samsung has already released a Tizen-powered device in the guise of the Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch but it has yet to produce a smartphone running its home-brewed mobile operating system. But all that may soon change according to reports by The Wall Street Journal.

According to WSJ, the Korean company might launch a Tizen smartphone in Russia “in the coming weeks” with India getting the device shortly after. There’s no specific information given especially on the phone’s specs, but given that Samsung is targeting emerging markets, we expect the feature set to be more on the entry-level and mid-range segment.

Aside from smartphones, cameras and wearables, Tizen is also expected to be installed on the Korean tech giant’s line of smart TVs although there is no timeline on when Samsung will do this.

A recent report by the Korea Herald indicates that tech giant Samsung is reportedly planning a standalone version of its Gear 2 smartwatch. Based on the news publisher, the fourth Gear smartwatch will have an embedded SIM allowing the user to make and receive phone calls using the watch alone and eliminating the need to pair it with a smartphone.

Moreover, the Korean Intellectual Property office said that the standalone smartwatch might be called the Gear Solo. The device will allegedly head to SK Telecom initially but Samsung might offer the Gear Solo in other markets later on.

As with other rumours, we recommend taking this news with a bit of salt. But as always, in case the rumours turn out to be true, we’ll definitely give you the information once more of Samsung cards are revealed.

Now in other news, Samsung has also given the Gear Fit an update that will allow the watch to display content in a vertical orientation. This should make reading the display of the smartband easier for users. The Samsung Gear Fit is expected to officially launch in April 11 alongside the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Rumours about a Tizen-powered smartwatch from Samsung surfaced a few days back when The Verge reported that the Korean tech giant is planning to release multiple versions of its next-generation smartwatch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week.

Today, we see the confirmation of that rumour as Samsung officially unveiled the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches, which are powered by the company’s own-brewed Tizen OS.

As you might have noticed, the new batch of smartwatches does away with the Galaxy branding and the Android OS that comes with the Galaxy line. Both models pack a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, a dual-core 1GHz processor, a 300mAh battery, a heart rate monitor, an infrared port to control smart appliances and IP67 certification, which makes it waterproof and dustproof.

The only difference between the Gear 2 and the Gear 2 Neo smartwatches is that the Gear 2 Neo drops the 2MP camera in favour of a lighter body.

Pricing for the said smartwatches remain unknown but Samsung says both devices should hit retail stores by April 2014.
