Gionee is steadily growing its Marathon line of phones with big batteries. Just last month, the company announced the Marathon M5 Plus andM5 Enjoy which both have batteries over 5000mAh in capacity.

This week, the Chinese manufacturer introduced the Marathon M5’s smaller brother – the Marathon M5 Mini. The phone is built around a 5-inch 720p IPS display and runs on a MediaTek MT6580 chipset.

The handset sports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. There’s also an 8MP camera, a 5MP selfie snapper and of course the mandatory large battery which in this case is rated at 4000mAh.

The Gionee Marathon M5 mini is running on Android 5.1 Lollipop with the company’s Amigo UI 3.1 on top. It also has the usual plethora of connectivity features that are found in devices in this price range including 3G connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

There’s no word yet on pricing and availability, but given its specs sheet, its likely to be another budget-friendly phone with a retail price that will fall below $200.

Remember the uber thin Gionee S5.1 from last year? Well that smartphone is getting a refresh in the form of a pro version in hopes to augment its predecessor’s shortcomings.
The new model simply called the S5.1 Pro is said to offer a bigger display, a better graphics card, bigger RAM and high resolution camera in the same slim form factor that put the Elife S5.1 into the map.

For starters, Gionee has upgraded the 4.8-inch display from last year’s model to a 5-inch 720p AMOLED display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 panel on top for protection. The device also runs on MediaTek MT6753 chipset with a 1.3GHz octa-core processor, a Mali-720MP3 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

At the back, you’ll find a 13MP camera while an 8MP sensor is placed on the front for selfies. Gionee has also added 4G LTE connectivity, dual-SIM functionality as well as a 2400mAh battery to keep the S5.1 relevant in today’s ever competitive smartphone market.

There is no word yet on international availability, but the Gionee S5.1 Pro should be available in China in the coming weeks for around $300.

Gionee is one of those smartphone makers that knows how to build smartphones with a specific niche in mind. This week, the Chinese manufacturer unveiled two new models that does exactly – the Elife E8 for flagship fans who want their phones to do everything and the Marathon M5 for people who want phone that last for days.

The Elife as we said, is a smartphone for people who want flagship specs. The handset features a 6-inch QHD display (with a pixel density of 490ppi), a MediaTek Helio X10 chip with a 2GHz octa-core processor, a PowerVR 6200 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Gionee has equipped the Elife E8 with a 24MP camera at the back that can produce images up to 120MP in resolution with the help of some software tweaks. The main camera sites behind a six-element lens with a sapphire glass front. The camera also sports optical image stabilization, dual-tone LED flash, lossless zoom and support for 4K video recording.

The Gionee Elife E8 will be available starting July 15 for around $645.

On the other hand, the Gionee Marathon M5 will come with a 5.5-inch HD panel, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. It is also equipped with a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP selfie snapper.

But of course the most important feature of the Marathon M5 would be its battery – in this case batteries. The handset has two 3010mAh batteries which bring the total power capacity of the phone to 6020mAh. The two batteries are charged at the same time using dual charging chips (much like Oppo’s VOOC charging technology) that equates to faster charging times and lower charing temperature.

Gionee has also incorporated some software management factor into the Elife E8 including background app management and smart power consumption management that should help in strengthening the phone’s battery life. This means the Elife E8 should be able to last for around four full days even when on heavy use.

The Gioneer Marathon M4 will be available starting June 25 with a suggested retail price tag of $370.
