It seems Google decision to fork WebKit in order to create its own browser rendering engine has paid off as another company has decided to provide support and contribute to the furthering of its latest creation – the Blink rendering engine.

This time it’s Adobe who made the statement that they will be supporting and contributing to Blink. According to the company’s director of engineering for its web platform team Vincent Hardy, the creation of Blink will strengthen an already healthy browser competition and adds that “the web is bigger than any one of its leading browser implementations and too important to be limited by a single code base even if that implementation has variations”.

Adobe has previously collaborated with Google and other companies including Google’s Chromium project and Mozilla on its Gecko engine for the improvement of the web. Adobe also doesn’t seem to be a bit concerned about any fragmentation in the browser ecosystem nor is it worried for a WebKit monoculture even after Opera’s announcement a few weeks ago about adopting WebKit over its own Presto engine.

Instead, Hardy stressed that the web needs to have engines such as Mozilla’s Gecko and IE’s Trident engines to make the web an open and innovative environment. And in continuing the company’s previous efforts, Hardy adds that Adobe will continue to focus on making sure browser engines interoperate and that it offers developers ways to test their site across different browsers.
