Barely 6 months after the announcement of the Xperia
Z4 in Japan, Sony has now unveiled a new family of Z phones at Berlin this
week. The company’s new Xperia Z5 comes alongside a compact version and a
Premium variant that packs a 4K display.
The base Xperia Z5 touts a 5.2-inch Full HD panel with a
screen density of 428ppi with the company’s Triluminos and X-reality
technologies. Inside, there’s a Snapdragon 810 chipset with dual quad-core
processors clocked up to 2GHz, an Adreno 430 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of
expandable storage.
The back of the Z5 is where you’ll find the 23MP custom-made
camera that’s exclusive to Sony and is complemented by a 24mm-equivalent f/2.0
lens. There’s also a fingerprint sensor, but Sony has decided to put it on the
side instead of at the back of at the front as with most devices in the market.
Sony has decided to get a 2900mAh battery for the Xperia Z5
and has IP68 certification just like its predecessors.
Meanwhile, the Xperia Z5 compact goes with a 4.6-inch display
with 720p resolution at 323ppi. It has the same Snapdragon 810 chip and Adreno
430 GPU inside but the RAM has been reduced to 2GB. Just like the base Z5, the
compact also comes with the 23MP at the back but skimps a few on the battery
with just a 2700mah unit.
Lastly, there’s Xperia Z5 Premium with a 4K Triluminos IPS
display with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at 806ppi. It also comes with a
1/2.3-inch Exmore RS sensor that churns out 23MP stills. Furthermore, the
camera is partnered with an f/2.0 lens and a number of software helpers
including Intelligent Auto Mode and SteadyShot technology.
The camera on the front of the device is a 5MP Exmor R
sensor and has a 25mm wide-angle lens, so you can get more people in a single
frame when taking a wefie. Sony has also invested in audio for the Z5 premium
with High-res audio and DSEE-HX.
Just like in the other Z5 models, the Z5 Premium comes with
a Snapdragon 810 chip and gets 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage. The
handset also has a fingerprint sensor and is IP68 certified with cap-less
ports.
