Remember the uber thin Gionee
S5.1 from last year? Well that smartphone is getting a refresh in the form
of a pro version in hopes to augment its predecessor’s shortcomings.
The new model simply called the S5.1 Pro is said to offer a
bigger display, a better graphics card, bigger RAM and high resolution camera
in the same slim form factor that put the Elife S5.1 into the map.
For starters, Gionee has upgraded the 4.8-inch display from
last year’s model to a 5-inch 720p AMOLED display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4
panel on top for protection. The device also runs on MediaTek MT6753 chipset
with a 1.3GHz octa-core processor, a Mali-720MP3 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of
expandable storage.
At the back, you’ll find a 13MP camera while an 8MP sensor
is placed on the front for selfies. Gionee has also added 4G LTE connectivity,
dual-SIM functionality as well as a 2400mAh battery to keep the S5.1 relevant
in today’s ever competitive smartphone market.
There is no word yet
on international availability, but the Gionee S5.1 Pro should be available in
China in the coming weeks for around $300.
