GoPro has just announced the Hero4 Session, its lightest and
smallest action camera yet. The device is said to be 50% smaller and 40%
lighter than its bigger brothers – the Hero4 Silver
and Black editions.
The camera weighs just 74 grams yet is capable of capturing
Full HD videos at 60 fps or 8MP still photos. The device is also waterproof up
to 33 feet and will be backwards compatible with existing mounts and
accessories for the Hero4.
GoPro has made the Session incredibly simple to operate using
only a lone button for its main functions. Users are able to control certain
functions on the device by how they press the button – a short press turns the
device on, a long-press starts time-lapse photography and subsequent presses
saves the content.
Those who want more granular control need to download the
GoPro app which connects the device to a user’s smartphone via Bluetooth and
Wi-Fi connections. The Session also comes with a dual-microphone system and a
microUSB port.
What missing though compared to the base Hero4 is 4K video
recording. The smaller size also meant that the Session needs to lose some
features including a touchscreen. The GoPro Hero4 Session will go on sale by
next week for $399.99.
