A few weeks back, Microsoft announced that it’s going to
drop the Nokia branding off the Lumia line of smartphones. And although the
acquisition deal stipulates that the latter will continue to exist as a brand
under Microsoft, some people were quick to assume that Nokia’s fire has been
extinguished.
But a few hours ago, the Finnish company proved everyone
wrong by releasing the N1 – a 7.9-inch tablet that runs on Android 5.0
Lollipop. The slate is powered by a 64-bit Intel quad-core processor, a PowerVR
G6430GPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable memory.
At the back is an 8MP camera while a 5MP snapper resides at
the front. The tablet also comes with 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.0, stereo
speakers, a 5300mAh battery and the brand new Micro-USB 2.0 port with a Type-C
reversible connector.
Nokia is also pre-installing its own Z-launcher into the
tablet. The N1 will be available initially in China early next year for around
$249.
