Remember Jolla? It’s that company that was composed mostly
of ex-Nokia employees who released their own smartphone with its own mobile
operating system called Sailfish OS. Well, just like Nokia, they’re also
building their first tablet – sort of.
The company has just launched an Indiegogo campaign for its
still to be named tablet which is expected to launch by May 2015. Similar to
the recently announced Nokia N1, the Jolla slate will have a 7.85-inch display
with a resolution of 2580 x 1536 pixels and will have an Intel (quad-core)
processor.
As the tablet is a crowd-funded project, Jolla is opening a
conversation with its community as well as the supporters of the tablet to know
which features they want to be incorporated into the device. At the moment, the
only sure detail about its specification is that it will be running the latest
version of the Jolla’s open-source Jolla OS that runs Android apps and
expandable storage via a microSD card.
Jolla expects the first set of tablets to ship by May next
year with a retail price of $200 with a $10 discount for the first 1000
customers.
