Google has just released today a standalone messaging app
for its Android mobile operating system, which should make people looking for
an SMS app with a material design feel.
The messenger has typical SMS send/receive functionality,
which is quite weird especially since Google’s Hangouts app has the same
functionality. However, unlike the latter, this new messenger can work with
dual-SIM phones by allowing the user to choose which phone number to use when
sending messages.
The SMS app was first introduced in Android 5.0 Lollipop,
but the app is now compatible with earlier versions of Android from 4.1 Jelly
Bean and is now available for download from Google Play. At the time of writing
the app has already been downloaded close to 10,000 times and has a rating of
4.4.
