Earlier this month reports came in that Microsoft is working
on a wearable that will work on all major mobile platform. Today, the existence
of this device has been confirmed by the Redmond company who adds that the “band”
will go on sale tomorrow.
The device will have a 310 x 102 resolution display and will
pack a number of sensors to measure different user stats including heart rate,
UV exposure, sleep quality, calories burned and even stress levels; and should last for 48 hours on a single charge. The band
will also sync your data with Microsoft’s Health service similar to how Apple’s
HealthKit and Google Fit work for their corresponding wearables.
Microsoft has also incorporated a built-in GPS into the band
in order to better track your activities through your location. The software on
the device will also automatically give users suggestions on which exercises to
do to burn the most energy based on a user’s record. Consumers will also be
able to share their data with their medical provider.
And it looks like Microsoft is willing to share the
technology this time with other companies. According to reports, the firm will
allow other companies to license the ten sensor setup for their own devices.
According to Microsoft, the “Band” will go on sale tomorrow
in the US only for $200 in limited quantities.
