This week isn’t a good week for popular cloud storage
provider Dropbox, as the company suffered some major problems including a bug
that affected a number of users and a leaked list of usernames and passwords.
A few days ago, the cloud storage provider experienced a bug
that deleted files from select users. According to Dropbox, the bug was
detected in some older versions of its desktop apps that are using selective sync.
The company has since then started fixing the issue and restoring files.
Aside from the bug, a large number of Dropbox usernames and
passwords were posted on pastebin. The person who posted the document on the
internet claimed that the list of around 400 login credentials is just a part
of a list of over 7 million accounts and has asked for bitcoin donations for
him to reveal more of the list.
In its defense, Dropbox claims that their system hasn’t been
hacked and that the exposed names were stolen from other services. The company
has also mentioned that they have already placed security measures to detect
accounts compromised by the said leaked login information.
At the very least, the company is urging its users to enable
two-step verification to strengthen the security of their accounts.
