Although Microsoft has announced that it will soon axe the Nokia
X project in favor of affordable Lumia handsets, it did promise to provide
continuous support to Nokia X phone owners.
Today, we see the fulfillment of that promise as an update
to the original Nokia X trio was rolled out to users. The Nokia X, X+ and XL
will be getting an update that brings some of the features of the Nokia X
Platform 2.0 as well as additional Microsoft services.
The most notable feature will be the app switcher which will
allow users (as the name implies) instantly switch between apps by using a
dedicated area in the notification area.
The update will also bring Outlook, OneDrive and OneNote
into Nokia X handsets. Users will be able to add multiple Outlook accounts into
their handsets, get push notifications, support for contact and calendar
syncing and sync up to 500 OneNotes into their devices.
The Nokia Store update will also be installed along with the
update which will integrate third-party app stores allowing users to install
all Android apps in one place. Moreover, a spotlight feature will also be added
into the phones allowing for better app discovery.
If you have a Nokia X, X+ or XL, you can check your phone
from the settings menu if the update has already available for your device.
