It’s been a while since our last Rumour Meals episode. And
it’s not that surprising especially when you take into account the various
events that happened in the past few weeks, rumours about upcoming devices will
certainly be put into the bottom of everyone’s priority list. But now that the
dust has settled, it’s again time to go back on the things we’ve previously
ignored to kill some lull time.
This week we’ve locked on to three upcoming handsets from
Korea and China. We’ll start things off with two of Samsung’s budget
smartphones – the Galaxy Core 2 and the Pocket 2.
The Galaxy Core 2 Duos is built around a 4.5-inch WVGA
screen with a pixel density of 207ppi). The phone is packing a quad-core
Cortex-A7 processor, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage that is
expandable via a microSD card. There’s also a 5MP camera at the back with an
LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera.
Then there’s the Galaxy Pocket 2. The budget phone is a bit
smaller than the Core 2 with its 3.2 QVGA screen, a 1GHz single-core processor
and 512MB of RAM. The cameras and battery are a notch lower than the Core 2
with a 2MP+VGA camera combo and a 1200mAh battery respectively.
Both phones will run on Android 4.4.2 and will be powered by
a 2000mAh battery. Of course there’s the usual set of connectivity features
including Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi b/g/n. Being budget phones, Samsung has
reeled the data speeds back at just 21Mbps 3G instead of LTE.
The Samsung Galaxy Core 2 has a suggested retail price of
$190 while the Galaxy Pocket 2 has a SRP of $85.
Lastly, we have the Huawei Mulan. Yesterday, images of the
upcoming flagship smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer were leaked on
Weibo. Based on the leaked images, the phone will likely have a fingerprint
sensor that’s placed at the back of the handset.
Its internals is comprised of Huawei’s new Kirin 920 chipset
with Cortex-A15 (clocked at 2GHz) and Cortex-A7 (clocked at 1.6GHz) quad-core
processors in a big.LITTLE configuration. The phone will also have a 5-inch
1080p display, 3GB of RAM, a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP front-facing
snapper.
The handset is expected to be unveiled in China next week.
