The market for QHD displays (2560 x 1440 pixels) is still
relatively monopolistic, with LG and Oppo being the very few competitors with
their G3 and Find 7 handsets. But if a recent rumour is to be believed, this
small group of manufacturers may be joined by Alcatel, especially with its D820
smartphone.
Yesterday, the smartphone appeared on benchmarking app
GFXBench’s database, revealing much of the handsets internals.
For starters, the phone will have a 4.6-inch display, which
when partnered with the QHD resolution will equate in a jaw-dropping 638ppi
pixel density. The brains behind the D820 is a MediaTek chipset that features
an octa-core CPU that combines a Cortex-A17 and Cortex A7 cores. There’s also
3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
Both the front and the back of the headset are said to have
7MP cameras that can also record 4K or UHD content. The phone will run on
Android 4.4.2, with of course a bit of Alcatel’s customizations on top. There’s
no word if and when the handset will be offered for sale in different parts of
the world but we’ll keep everyone posted.
