Sony’s RX100 cameras has always been known
for its superior performance despite its small form factor, which has made it a
favourite among photography buffs who are looking for a backup camera or even
as a primary camera in place for a bulky DSLR.
Sony realizes the importance of the RX100
and has therefore given the camera a refresh with the RX100 III. Building from
the success of the first two generations, the third RX100 features a 20.1MP
Exmor R CMOS sensor coupled with a Zeiss glass-equipped Vario-Sonna T 24-70mm,
f/1.8-2.8 lens and a Bionz X image processor.
The camera is capable of recording 1080p
video in XVAC S, AVHD and MP4 formats. IT also has a built-in, retractable
1.440k-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, Wi-Fi and NFC. The Sony RX100 III has an
ISO range of 125 to 12800 and a D-Range optimizer. Sony has also added numerous
picture effects on the RX100 III both for still images and movie mode including
toy camera, pop colour, Posterization, retro photo, partial colour, high
contrast monochrome and HDR painting to name a few.
There are also a number of scene modes to
be used for specific situations including Anti-Motion Blur, Fireworks, Gourmet
(food photography), Handheld Twilight, High Sensitivity, Landscape, Macro,
Night Scene, Pet mode, Portrait, Sports Action and Sunset.
Focus control on the RX100 III is delivered
by a 25 contrast-detect autofocus system that allows the camera to have
multiple-point AF, continuous AF, Single Shot AF and Flexible Spot AF. Lastly,
there’s a 3.0-inch, 1.299k-dot TFT LCD panel at the back that can be tilted up
by 180 degrees and tilted down by 45 degrees.
The Sony RX100 III will be available this
June for $800.
