A few days ago, rumours about Apple’s plans for home
automation generated quite a buzz in the tech space. But now, new reports
indicate that the Smart Home initiative might just be an expanded MFI (Made for
iPhone) program.
According to a report by Gigaom, the project will just be a
set of standards for devices that can integrated with the company’s devices.
There will still be Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity involved in the program
but there won’t be an automation function involved.
As with the earlier rumour, we suggest taking this new bit
of news with an open mind. Apple’s annual developer conference is due in a few
days so we might get some news there. Nonetheless, an extended MFI program can
still be helpful for consumers who are looking for appliances that can connect
with their devices.
