After its debut in BUILD 2014 two weeks ago, Microsoft’s
Windows Phone 8.1 is now available for download – well, at least for those who
sign up for a developer account.
If you just can’t stand the itch to get your hands on the
latest build of Windows Phone, you can either pay Microsoft $19 and get access
to publishing apps in the Windows Phone Store or just register for free on the
Windows Phone App Studio as a developer.
However, there are some things you definitely should look
into before doing the update. For starters, choosing to install the developer
preview may void your phone’s warranty, so you might want to hold out a bit and
wait for the official update. The developer preview won’t also include any
carrier customizations (and drivers) as it will only carry changes sanctioned
by Microsoft.
If you’re okay with all these, then you can go ahead and
upgrade. By doing so, you’ll be able to give your handset the newest features a
Windows-powered phone could have including a voice assistant, a dedicated notification
center and more.
