Qualcomm has recently announced its newest chip duo – the Snapdragon
810 and 808 chipsets that will power flagship and mid-range handsets of the
very near future. Both chips will feature 64-bit processors and use ARM Cortex
A5x CPUs as well as the big.LITTLE architecture much like that of Samsung’s Exynos
chips.
The Snapdragon 810 will be the company’s top of the line
chip and will replace the outgoing Snapdragon 805. The chip packs four
Cortex-A57 and Cortex A53 cores and offer up to 20% power consumption
reduction. The chip will also come with Adreno 430 GPU that provides support
for OpenGL ES 3.1 and provides up to 30% graphics performance and 100% faster
GPGPU computer performance.
It also introduces high-speed LPDDR4 memory and support for
4K interface and video. Qualcomm has also added an upgraded camera suite using
gyro-stabilization and 3D noise reduction for producing 4K videos at 30fps and
Full HD video at 120fps.
There’s also support for VIVE 2-stream 802.11ac with
multi-user MIMO for more efficient Wi-Fi connections, NFC, USB 3.0 and
Bluetooth 4.1.
Then there’s the Snapdragon 808 which utilizes a A57/A53
processor combo. In terms of providing support for high definition displays,
the 808 is a slightly downgraded version of the 810 as it supports 2K displays
(WQXVGA). It also uses a watered-down GPU – the Adreno 418 graphics.
The 808 also uses LPDDR3 memory and supports frame buffer
compression and external 4K display support via HDMI 1.4. Both models sport 4G
LTE Cat 6 that should provide users with 300Mbps download speed.
