Samsung has quietly announced the first model of its Galaxy
Tab line for 2015 in a discrete event in Russia – the Samsung Galaxy Tab A. The
slate will be offered in 2 variants, an 8-inch version and a 9.7-inch model.
Both models will have a 1024 x 768 display, which translates
to a screen density of 160ppi for the 8-incher and 133ppi for the 9.7-inch
model. The slates come with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM (2GB of
the larger model), 16GB of expandable storage and a 5MP/2MP camera combo.
In terms of longevity, the 8-inch model is sporting a
4200mAh battery, which according to Samsung is enough for the device to last
for up to 10 hours on normal usage. The 9-inch variant, on the other hand goes
by with a bigger 6000mAh pack.
There’s no specific news yet about an official shipping
date, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab A will be priced at around $275 for the base
3G model and up to $372 for the LTE version (that will probably come with 32GB
of on-board storage).
