Head-mounted wearables might have lost some of its appeal upon
the arrival of smart watches, but it doesn’t mean that it’s completely out of
the picture. Sony for instance has made its non-detachable Sony SmartEyeglass available
for pre-order.
The SmartEyeGlass SED-E1 developer edition will be available
in 10 countries coming next month for $840. The device is using holographic waveguide technology
projected in 3mm AR lenses that puts images directly into the wearer’s eyeline.
There’s also a 3MP camera that can take pictures and videos.
A separate module (that connects to the frame via cable) houses other
components of the device including the battery, speaker, microphone, NFC and
touch controls. Moreover, the SDK is already available for developers to play
with.
