The word Raspberry Pi might not ring a bell especially for
the rest of us living outside the US and Europe, but it has definitely made
some headlines as an affordable solution for a PC. And today, the makers of the
Raspberry Pi have announced a new model that should offer a massive improvement
in terms of the device’s performance at the same price.
The new Raspberry Pi 2 comes with a 900MHz quad-core
processor, 1GB of RAM and supports for Windows 10 courtesy of course by
Microsoft. This significantly improves the performance by as much as six times
that of its predecessor – the Raspberry Pi Model B+. The Raspberry Pi 2 will
still have the same ports as the Model B+, including a couple of USB 2.0 ports,
a microSD card reader and A/V ports.
And yes, although a 900MHz quad-core processor might be a
lousy feat compared to today’s line of smartphones, we have to consider that
the Raspberry Pi is priced significantly cheaper than most phones these days at
$35. Just like the Model B+, the Raspberry Pi 2 will launch at a limited number
and will only be available in Europe and U.S.
