Following the trend of a side-by-side launch event, Huawei
unveiled today the latest iteration of its flagship model with the Huawei P8
and P8 Max. Both phones sport a premium full-metal unibody design crafter from
aluminum and is powered by the company’s home-brewed Kirin chipset.
The base P8 model launches with a 5.2-inch display with Full
HD resolution that takes around 78.3% of the handset’s front. It has an
octa-core Cortex A53 processor, 3GB of RAM, a Mali-T628 GPU and either 16/64GB
of expandable storage.
The camera on the device has a 13MP sensor with optical
image stabilization and its own independent image processor, which according to
Huawei can produce DSLR-quality photos. The rear camera also is capable of
capturing light in RGBW (red-green-blue-white) pattern that should improve its
performance in low-light conditions. There’s also an 8MP sensor on the front
for selfies.
In terms of connectivity, the P8 is equipped with Huawei’s
Signal+ tech that utilizes two antennas that switches back and forth in order
to get the most coverage and that data and calls are stable at all times. The
handset also features Wi-Fi+ which automatically connects itself to the network
with the best signal. Moreover, the P8 comes with two SIM card slots, both of
which support LTE. The second slot doubles as a microSD card slot.
Power is provided by a 2680mAh battery, which according to
Huawei can last up to 1.5 days even with heavy use. The handset will be
available in two versions, a 16GB model which costs €500 and the 64GB version
which will retail at €600.
For those in need of a bigger real estate, Huawei also
unveiled the P8Max. The phablet pushes the boundary of phablets in terms of
screen size with its 6.8-inch display that offers 1080p resolution and occupies
83% of the phone’s front.
It’s made in the same high-grade aluminum as the base P8 and
offers a 7-layer head conducting system that keeps its temperature lower by 5
degrees compared to its rivals. It has the same Kirin chipset as the P8 and
comes with a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked up to 2.2GHz.
As for the camera, the phablet has the same 13MP sensor (with
OIS and dedicated image processor) as in the base model but the selfie camera
has been downgraded to 5MP. What’s bigger though is the battery which is rated
at 4360mAh.
The Huawei P8Max will be sold for €650 for the 64GB model
and €550 for the 16GB version. Both handsets can come with optional cases. The
P8 goes with an e-ink case while the P8Max has a perforated leather case.
