The eyes are the Windows to the Soul. LG seems to have taken
this mantra quite seriously when it released earlier today the LG AKA in South
Korea.
The Aka, which is supposedly pronounced as “aw-kuh” is your
typical mid-range handset with a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.2GHz quad-core
processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable on-board storage, a 2610mAh
battery, an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing snapper.
But when you turn on the phone, you get a pair of eyes that
can represent four different characters when you change the phone’s case.
Changing to a yellow case will give you Eggy, a white case for Wooky, a pink
case for Yoyo, while a black cover will result in the appearance of Soul.
Each Aka also serve as a notification and a means of
interaction for the user. The eyes get dizzy when a user shakes the phone,
looks down whenever you need to take the phone out of the case or when there’s
a new notification. The color of the eyes also changes when the Aka character
wishes to change its emotion.
The LG Aka is a mid-ranger and hence carries a mid-level
price tag, which is quite weird if LG plans to target the younger audience with
this phone. The device is now available in South Korea for around $455.
