AMD is finally following Intel in invading the mobile space
by releasing the update to its Kaveri APU – with a much improved Carrizo and
Carrizo-L SoCs. The two chips were launched during the company’s Future of
Compete event as part of AMD’s 2015 offerings.
Designed with the new x86 CPU core architecture codenamed “Excavator” couple with the
next-generation Radeon graphics, Carrizo is considered as the world’s first
Heterogeneous Systems Architecture (HSA) 1.0 compliant chip. IT’s Puma+ CPU is
designed to work with its Radeon R-series CGN CPU to deliver an all-around
solution for gaming, productivity applications and UHD experiences.
The new chip will also support Microsoft Direct X 12, OpenCL
2.0, AMD’s Mantle API and FreeSync technology as well as support for the
upcoming Windows 10 operating system. The Carrizo and Carizzo-L chips are
scheduled to ship by the first half of next year.
