The second part of Apple’s keynote involved the new iMac
with Retina display. The new AIO has a 27-inch display with a resolution of
5120 x 2880 pixels with 14.7 million pixels (dubbed as Retina 5K) that’s
encased in a body that’s just 5mm thin.
Under the hood, Apple has opted for Intel’s Core processors
starting with a 3.5GHz Core i5 quad-core CPU and goes up to a 4GHz Core i7
processor. The AIO’s brain is complemented by AMD’s Radeon R9 M290x GPU, 8GB of
RAM and a 1TB Fusion drive. The new Apple AIO starts shipping today and will
cost $2499.
The Mac Mini will also be getting an upgrade this year. Apple’s
energy efficient Mac will get 4th-generation Intel Core processors,
with Intel Iris and HD graphics 5000, a faster PCIe-based flash storage and 4GB
of RAM. The device also comes with updated Wi-Fi 802.11ac, two Thunderbolt 2
ports, Bluetooth 4.0 and a native Mini DisplayPort output.
And just like the new iMac, the Mac Mini will also be $100
lower than last year’s model at $499 for the 1.4GHz Core i5 model to $999 for
the 3.0GHz Core i7 model.
