Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Active Debuts on AT&T

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has been the stuff of a lot of rumours these past few days. Yesterday, the Korean company has finally announced the S5 Active by listing the handset on AT&T.

Just like its predecessor, the S5 Active still boasts a ruggedized design with rubber edges and four faux screws at the back and there’s still the trio of physical buttons at the front for navigating the interface.

The S5 still has its IP67 and MIL-spec 810G certification, which means the handset is still water, dust and shockproof. Just like what the rumours have said, the handset will have a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip with a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, up to 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB with a microSD card.

Connectivity-wise, the S5 sports 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/c/ac, NFC and Bluetooth v4.0 LE. There’s also a 16MP camera at the back, a 2MP snapper at the front and a 2800mAh battery that can last up to 20 days in standby.

Just like the Galaxy S5, the S5 Active also comes with a built-in heart rate sensor that is located just below the rear camera. There’s also an activity zone that houses a number of activity-related features on the phone and can be accessed by a convenience key located at the side of the device.

The Android 4.4-running Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is now available on AT&T for $199.99 under a 2-year contract.

Meanwhile, a new unreleased Samsung handset was leaked a few days ago. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 7.0 is the newest member of the super-sized Mega line-up. The device as the name suggests will have a 7-inch display which might replace the company’s Mega 6.3.

There’s not a lot we know about the device, except it boasts a massive display but it’s likely that the handset will be announced alongside the upcoming Galaxy Tab S on June 13.
