COMPUTEX 2014: Dell Venue Tablets

Compared to other manufacturers like Acer and Asus that brought new devices in Computex, Dell has remained a bit reserved this year with announcements mainly in the form of refreshes of its products from lastyear.

First one up is the company’s Android-powered Venue tablets. This year, the Venue 7 and Venue 8 both received an upgrade.

Compared to last year’s model, the two tablets now pack updated Intel chips. To be specific, the Venue 7 now comes with an Intel Atom Z3460 chip (compared to last year’s Atom Z2760 Clover Trail chip) with a 1.6GHz dual-core 64-bit Silvermont-based Merrifield processor. On the other hand, the Venue 8 now comes with an Intel Atom Z3480 chip with a 2.13GHz dual-core processor.

In the display department, the Venue 7’s display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels while that of the Venue 8 is set at 1920 x 1200 pixels. Moreover, the Venue 8 has a 2MP camera which is a step higher than the 1MP camera placed at the front of the Venue 7. Both models will have a Waves MAXXAudio Pro technology, a 5MP rear camera, 16GB of expandable internal storage and Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

The Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 will be available starting July via Dell’s website for $160 and $200 respectively.
