A lot of new and great things has popped their heads at the
first ever Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes in California from new translation
tech to self-driving
cars. But a tech conference wouldn’t be complete if it didn’t showcase the
current trending technology today – wearables.
Intel took the lead this time by revealing a new wearable –
a smart shirt. The garment is made by AIQ, an Intel partner company and uses
sensors embedded on conductive fibers to monitor a user’s vital statistics
including their heart rate and even their emotions.
The wearable uses Intel’s Edison
chip and connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and records the
information through an app. The electronics in the shirt are relatively hidden
from plain sight and are tucked away in a small box attached to a side pouch.
It also comes with a special battery which (unfortunately) you need to remove
along with the shirt’s main computer whenever you want to throw it in the
washing machine.
The smart shirt is expected to be released in the coming
months but it will likely be produced by a partner company though Intel will be
the one to make the sensors. Moreover, the company stated that they are also
working on different kinds of wearables including those that you wear on your
ears, eyes, wrist and torso.
